[murmur] Launch Celebration and Fundraiser

Please join us Wednesday June 29, at 6pm at Bistro La Source, 85 Morris Street, Jersey City, NJ, 07302, as we gather to raise funds and our spirits as we celebrate the upcoming launch of [murmur] Jersey City!

About [murmur]:
[murmur] is a collection of site-specific stories, both personal and historic, which are recounted by community members. These stories are not read, but heard, through a series of designated signage, set apart in walkable distance. Each sign displays a phone number which passersby can call to listen to and engage with as many or as few stories as they like. By connecting these seemingly independent stories, a narrative of Jersey City unfolds, depicting the richness of the community, the land, and its people.

[murmur] Jersey City is going to work with 15 at-risk youths to collect a peoples history of Jersey City. We believe that young people have insights critical to the selection and delivery of the most relevant and compelling stories.  As young people embedded in distressed settings, at-risk youth can use the lens of disorder to project the possibility of hope if they are given the proper guidance, support and tools. We are convinced that enabling youth to work on understanding their setting has great value.  However, we have found that such youth have been marginalized from larger systems and have compromised access to enaging extracurricular activities.

This is why we need your help! To fully fund [murmur] Jersey City we need to raise $16,000.  Thus far a city wide effort of dozens of local merchants, artists and residents have donated merchandise, gifts certificates and time to help make [murmur] Jersey City possible. Raffle prizes include: four 3rd row Mets tickets with parking pass, a Damaged Wear T-Shirt, gift certificates to Edwards Steak House, Two Aprons, Spirit of Laxmi, Tommy Two Scoops, Balance Hair Salon, Hudson Camera and more! We have already raised thousands towards our goal but still have a long way to go.

[murmur] Jersey City is funded in part by the New Jersey Governor’s Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Committee.  Administered by the Juvenile Justice Commission.  We are still accepting donations.
