We don’t just house them; we teach them about what living on their own entails (Life Skills). With four locations in Jersey City and additional sites being renovated, Friends of the Lifers is a key provider of Housing services in Hudson County. Every Housing client receives:

• Groceries and Meal Planning- A monthly food allowance used to purchase Poultry, Meats, Steaks, Starches, Vegetables and other
  healthy meal components. These items are bought in bulk to “stretch the dollar” and ensure the availability of healthy foods to promote individual meal planning.
  
• Clothing- An initial stipend allows the men and women to receive “starter” clothing for daily use and for early work opportunities.
• Hygiene Starter Pack- Often overlooked, a hygiene starter pack provides the necessary items for daily hygiene and maintenance
  and healthy appearance.
  
• Bedding & Furniture- All clients receiving Housing are provided bedding and essential furniture for the units.  These items are
  purchased or provided through donors and partner agencies.
  
• Financial Planning and Money Management- Through Bank Partnerships and Internal workshops, our clients are taught how to
  best manage their budget.
  
• Child Support Awareness & Fatherhood- Friends of Lifers provides these services by partnering with certified fatherhood presenters
  that use National Fatherhood Initiative curriculums (www.fatherhood.org) and we help engage non-custodial parents with NJ Child Support through the New Jersey Child Support Program Public Awareness/Outreach Campaign.

Passport to Reentry provides the necessary social supports and substance abuse treatment necessary to help clients begin their new lives, free from the influence of substances and mentally capable of beginning to rebuild their lives. This is coordinated through Liberty Health Care’s Behavioral Health Services Program, providing mental health and substance abuse treatment.
